ST. THOMAS'S GARDENING CLUB 2009 REPORT
2009 was not the best of years for the Gardening Club. We made an inauspicious start by cancelling our February meeting due to bad weather!
Our Membership dropped to 26 paid-up members and the average attendance at the monthly meetings was in the low 20's. This drop in membership resulted in a reduction of income, which together with the increase in the cost of paying for speakers, has left the Club's finances in a parlous state. However, we did have some interesting talks and visits.
The year commenced with our Annual Dinner and AGM, which was attended by 20 members. AH the Club's Officers were re-elected.
The topics covered in our evening meetings were:
Successful seed germination -Sue Nicholas
Floral photo presentation -Dr. Wary Walmesley
The corner of an island - Rev. F.H. Linn
Butterflies in the garden - Jan Miller
A tale of two gardens - Terry Scheers
Christmas floral decorations - Doris Roberts
In April the Club visited Pensychnant, when we were fortunate to have the most beautiful weather and in July we paid an evening visit to Tan-y-Bryn Farm at Llanefydd.
In December we held our Members' Evening and Finger Buffet. Thanks are again due to Garry Redshaw for the film of National Trust Gardens and to Harry Davies and John Raine for their DVD's of the Club's 2002 Flower Show and various Club events respectively.
Thanks are again due to Glynis Hughes, our Secretary, and Mary Jones, our Vice-Chairperson, for arranging the monthly talks and visits. Also thanks to Elsie Avers for looking after the finances and the other members of the Committee for their support.
Again we extend our thanks to the Church for the use of the Hall, Kitchen and Heating and special thanks to Richard Lake for preparing the Hall for our meetings.
